This project started when I was approached by the firefighters’ innovation department. Their goal was to explore “Firefighting in 2030” and to rethink how technology could shape their future operations. To ground the vision in reality, I conducted interviews and workshops with firefighters to understand their daily routines, pain points, and where innovation could make the biggest difference.

Once we had a clear picture of their needs, I scouted potential solutions in the market. This included reaching out to suppliers, evaluating emerging technologies, and speaking with customers to gauge real-world usability. The focus was always on matching the right innovations to the firefighters’ specific operational requirements.

PoC Development & Execution

After deciding on which technologies to test, I structured the proof of concept: aligning stakeholders, defining the budget, and ensuring connectivity and setup ran smoothly. After implementation, I led debrief sessions and training to ensure everyone could confidently use and evaluate the new technology.

We executed the PoC in the field under various real-life scenarios: low visibility due to smoke/fog, live fire, and simulated search-and-rescue missions. This stage was about stress-testing the technology in the environments where it truly matters, ensuring reliability, safety, and ease of use when every second counts.

Outcomes

The project concluded with a partnership agreement to take the solution forward. We delivered a fully connected system, complete with secure data hosting, that met the firefighters’ operational and technical needs, laying the groundwork for real-world deployment and future scaling.
